Cabanas is the waterfront area where most of the bars and restaurants are located. A former fishing village its main activity now is geared around the many tourists who visit the area and particularly the island beaches in the summer months. Access to the beaches is by water taxi and the island has snack bar, toilets and restaurants which are open in the summer.
Golfers are spoiled for choice with some of the best courses in the Algarve within a 15 minute drive. The Jack Nicklaus course at Monte Rei is tipped to become the Number 1 course in Portugal and is already a firm favourite with Professionals. Quinta da Ria has already hosted several European Senior Tour events and Castro Marim has opened a new 9 holes which form part of their new Championship course. Quinta do Vale is also maturing well and proving very popular – and the lovely Benamor course with its gently undulating front 9 is a short drive from the apartment. Dont be fooled though – the back 9 is a good test for any golfer!

The accommodation includes a fully equipped kitchen with dining and living area opening onto a small balcony with views of the Ria Formosa and ocean beyond, off the entrance hall is the bedroom which includes another small balcony and a large fully fitted bathroom.
A holiday in Cabanas village is perfect for those who wish to sample the ‘real’ Algarve but with the more desirable aspects of a holiday area – a wide choice of quality inexpensive restaurants offering typical Portuguese food, daily market selling fresh local produce, small shops and bars tucked away along the narrow streets, and several top quality golf courses nearby.
It’s a small friendly village, still a traditional Algarvian community and an active fishing area. Central to Cabanas is an amazing natural lagoon – part of the Ria Formosa national park, where you can take a short trip in a small boat (about 2 minutes, 1 euro return) to what is probably the most beautiful and unspoiled beach in the Algarve – massive, sandy, clean, non-commercial and never overcrowded – warmest sea in Portugal! The beach has changing/wc facilities, loungers and parasols for hire, and a newly completed cafe/bar. Many other superb beaches are nearby.
Cabanas is 4km east of Tavira, this beautiful and elegant historic town cannot be missed. It has avoided the excesses of development and lost none of its grace. The maze of cobbled streets and alleyways are a delight to explore.
